Hey world! I checked, and yes, this is Day Seven! A marathon that lasted a week! Woo! And I still have one, possibly two, book(s) left to review, so this is definitely going to be a record breaking marathon of awesomeness. I'm also going to the library tomorrow (7/15) so now is the time for requests.
So, recently, not even almost recently, it really is recently now, I finished this book called Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs. (I just had probably my longest string of typos ever trying to get all of this written correctly.) It's book one in a trilogy, and the whole trilogy is already out so no worries there. I've read a Tracy Deebs before. Still waiting for the sequel to that. Might bias my review. Kidding. Anyways, Amazon link. There's an audible, but I don't feel like listening to it. (Today is not my day for typing - thank goodness for the backspace key!)
Summaryish: On her 17th birthday, Tempest faces the biggest choice of her life. Stay on land, or return to the sea like her mother before her. She's a mermaid, by the way. She wants to stay with her family and her boyfriend, but a mysterious sea person and a wicked sea witch might just succeed in spoiling her plans. Wow, a summary both short and terrible. But there's not really anything else I can say about it!
Review: So I really liked this book, it wasn't a hopeless love, but I still liked it, and I can see all the lines laid for a great trilogy to come, but as a book by itself, it could be better. I never stopped reading to stare at the ceiling in boredom, because a lot was going on and it was very interesting, but something about it just made it really easy to tune out, and I kept missing stuff and having to go back. Plus, there wasn't a lot of building tension, it was just like, oh, sea battle. Nice. I just felt like it needed a little bit more to give it an A+ rating. As it is, I'd give it a B, which is still good enough for you to get out and read. I'm looking forward to the next books in the series, because I can see how the story is just going to get better from here!
About the Cover:
This is a pretty nice cover with great font choice, and it's very pleasing to the eye. The one thing that I noticed, however, is that Tempest on the front, while she looks like she is described which makes me happy, is very obviously standing upright. The thing is, you can see the beginnings of her mermaid tail. Standing upright - mermaid tail. How on earth is she standing upright! It confuses me!
Okay, see you tomorrow for the record breaking post!
